Physical Examination · 7 August 2013
I am excited to have my annual physical examination today. Of course, there will be no cholesterol or other test results for a while, but I am still excited to get my checkup.
In fact, this will be the first year that I have not had some sort of trepidation going into my yearly exam. In years past, I have worried that my cholesterol or triglycerides were high. If that was not the case, some enzyme or other would be out of whack. I could count on it.
Every year there would be something that I needed to fix. Every year I would tell the doctor that I would do pretty much anything to keep from having to take any medications. And every year I would do just enough to keep away from those medications.
This year, I am looking forward to the doctor asking me what I have done to be where I am. And I am looking forward to having great numbers on my blood work. It is the first year in hopefully many to come where I am excited to have my annual physical examination.

The Journey Continues · 6 August 2013
I know I still have about three weeks until I am done with my daily blogging about health, but I cannot help but wonder what I will do when it is over.
One thing I do know is that even though my writing about health may be finishing, my journey will continue. I will continue to figure out my eating and fitness routines. And of course, I will continue writing.
As far as eating goes, I will probably keep meat out of my diet and will definitely keep dairy at minute levels. In terms of fitness, I plan to continue running with minimalist shoes, but I am not sure what distances I want to go. Whatever happens, I plan to adjust my eating and exercising to do what is best for my personal health.
The more difficult thing to determine is my writing. I will, of course, continue to write, but I will probably not post every day. (Even though I have so much to say.) As for publishing, I still have my weekly MediocreMan blog and I have more writing projects now than I probably ever had before.
When all is said and done, I will never really be done with my journey toward health. And I will never be done writing.
I still have a few weeks to go with my daily blogging about health. Maybe by that time, I will have figured out what comes next on the continuing journey.

Health Does NOT Just Happen · 3 August 2013
It ought to be obvious, but health does not just happen.
Unfortunately, we buy into the notion that we can eat whatever we want and abuse our bodies however we want and still stay active and healthy for as long as we want. In reality, health takes effort. We need to eat properly and get in a little exercise. We need to rest our bodies and minds. And we need to adjust our lives when we get injured or when life just happens. In short, we need to plan for health.
The strange thing is that we hear this message all the time. And yet no matter how many times we are told that we need to be vigilant and protect our health, we still take good health for granted.
Still, if we take our health for granted for too long by abusing ourselves with poor food choices, sedentary lifestyles, and unhealthy environments, we can lose that good health in no time at all. Our bodies will rebel. Or at the very least, they will not perform to the best of their abilities. I hate to say it, but the old saying is true. If we fail to plan for health, we plan to have failing health.
With all of the good information out there, we really ought to know how to treat ourselves for optimum health. But since the obvious is apparently not so obvious, I will state it again. Health does not just happen.
