French Fry Feeding Frenzy · 20 October 2012

Not eating just leads to trouble. For me, that trouble usually comes in the form of a feeding frenzy.

Regardless of what type of eater you are (carnivore, omnivore, vegetarian, vegan, or almost vegan), skipping meals or eating too lightly tends to lead to overdoing it the next time. I ought to know. I have done it time and time again. Usually with much more remorse and severe consequences than I had after eating too much many French fries last night.

We went out for supper on the spur of the moment. I did not even realize I was hungry until the first fries showed up. They were probably not cooked in a vegan way, so it is a good thing I am merely almost vegan, because I devoured fry after fry. Even after my vegan burger and fruit were gone. I still ate and ate and ate. It was not until later that I realized why I had eaten so much.

They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I rarely miss it, and yesterday was no exception. I had a hearty breakfast with lots of legumes and greens. But for lunch, I had a small tortilla with more greens and legumes plus a little guacamole on top.

I usually have a snack at the end of school. It makes it so that I do not go too long without putting food in my stomach – I try not follow the recommendation to not go longer than 4 or 5 hours between feedings. Yesterday, I forgot to pack a banana so the light lunch was all I had until supper. Eight hours later. No snack meant too long between eating yesterday. Which led to more than overeating. It led to a French fry feeding frenzy.

Fortunately, overeating as an almost vegan does not seem to have as many adverse consequences as overeating as an omnivore. I would have been miserable if I had eaten a meat burger instead of a veggie burger. As it was, I was stuffed, but I did not need to loosen my belt when we left. And I did not waddle all the way to the truck.

Even though I was not as adversely affected by overeating as I have been in the past, I still need to remember to eat more often. Unless I have a spiritual or physical reason for fasting, I need to eat every few hours. If only so that I do not eat myself into oblivion later on.

I should know better than to skip eating, because it just leads to trouble. Like French fry feeding frenzies.
