Six Months · 25 February 2013

It has been six months since I started on my journey toward health, and I think I am on the right track.

When I started this journey, I was nearing the heaviest I have ever been. I weighed 168 pounds and it seemed I was getting heavier by the minute. I was eating junk food like it was going out of style and paying for it on the scale and in the waist. Now, I weigh 144 pounds. I was only really trying to get down to 155. I knew I needed to lose 10 pounds. I did not even think I needed to lose 20.

I was surprised to find out that my resting heart rate has changed too. It has always been between 58-62 beats per minute. When I was in elementary school, they taught us how to take our pulse. I have been checking it ever since. Not daily, but I have used my resting heart rate as one indicator of my health. Currently, I have a resting heart rate between 44-52 beats per minute.

It seems odd, but I am not sure running is the reason for the changes. I would have thought it to be the main reason for both changes. However, since I have not been able to do that much running, I think eating the right foods has been the deciding factor. It is as if all the green stuff has been scrubbing my blood vessels as well as my digestive tract.

Regardless of whether eating or running is the key and regardless of how corny it sounds, I believe I am on the right track to better health. I suppose I will find out for sure in another six months. And then years from now.
